Got it at a price comparable to the US price (which is also a bit costly, btw). The bridge setup is quite easy, the only issue being it requires a wired ethernet connection. So if ur modem has only one ethernet LAN port, this will take it up.Whites put out are pretty good, from really warm to cool. The bulb is pretty deficient in the green part of the spectrum, rest are fine. The main issue I see while setting this up in India is that once the bulb is switched on MANUALLY using a physical switch, it defaults to ON state with full bright, warm white irrespective of the previous state of the bulb. So when power comes back after a power outage, the bulb defaults to full brightness. Can be quite irritating if your area has frequent power cuts. Searched forums online, but there seems to be no way to change this behaviour (does not seem to be a big issue in US probably coz power outages are very rare there). So in India we might need a UPS backup to enjoy the features completely.
This is the best starter kit to buy if you want to test how good Philips Hue is before investing heavily into it. The Bridge is a Gen 2 , and works with Apple Homekit. This might seem like a minor convenience, but the integration of the Homekit controls in the iOS Control Centre make it much faster than launching the Hue App and turning the lights on/off etc. I am using it with the Amazon Echo Dot, and it works flawlessly. The included B22 bulb in the B22 Mini Starter Kit is a Gen 2 10W Bulb (as can be recognised by the base of the bulb being white instead of silver of the older 1st Gen 8 Watt bulb) fits directly in a regular Indian Bulb Socket, and the bridge etc are all working fine in India. The bulb gets decently bright in the regular white colours, but is obviously dimmer in the Purples and Blues on account of the properties of the colours themselves. The only difference between these bulbs and the Gen 3 bulbs is colour accuracy for the Greens Blues etc. In these bulbs, they're slightly washed out - but I can live with that since the Gen 3 Bulbs are almost double the price in India currently. The Gen 2 Bridge is the latest version. The Amazon Echo Dot integrates perfectly with Philips Hue as well as IFTTT (If This Then That - Google it), and I've set my bulbs to turn Purple when the International Space Station passes overhead, Turn Red when an Alarm goes off, and even start blinking and flashing when the "Party Mode" is triggered. This product is expensive, without a doubt - but is a treat for anyone who loves technology. It's also a great conversation starter with the guests - and you get the feel good factor associated with being an early adopter of revolutionary tech (even though the product is new only in India). If you are sitting on the fence, I'd ask you to go ahead without hesitation. I've used them for about 3 weeks now, and I can almost not imagine my life without them already.P.S. - This review is not sponsored by Philips or Amazon or anyone else. Although I wish it were. Alexa - are you listening?
Excellent product. Set up is very straightforward and works seamlessly with Apple Homekit, Amazon Alexa and Microsoft Cortana.
Amazing Product. Though it’s expensive, worth the money you pay
